Manchester Ridge Coast Mountain Vineyards at 2000' in elevation is above the marine layer, fog cover, about 90% of the time. Four weather data collectors were stationed along the length of the ridge in 1999. In every year since 1999, during the critical month of September all four collectors registered temperatures over 90 degrees.
From the Adcon weather station’s two monitoring locations, installed in early 2005, there were no days over 100 degrees and no days with a temperature below 32 deg. There were only 10 days with temperatures over 90
degrees, which makes this a perfect site for pinot noir and chardonnay. In addition, the degree days measured from April 1 to Oct. 31st were 2288. This would make this a mid-region one growing area according to Winkler's breakdown of climatic regions based on heat summation.
Thus, this area is similar in climate to western Sonoma County, cooler areas of Santa Barbara county, and vineyard growing areas in Oregon. All these areas are prime growing regions for pinot noir.
